There are many reasons to bring in outside consultants in to a project. Sometimes a fresh air of eyes can result in major improvements in products or processes and result in a faster development cycle and a market leading product.

Another reason for using external consultants may be that the existing development team do not have experience in the technologies to be used in a new product or that there are simply not enough resources for development of a new product within the required timescale.
